I’m Mad as Hell and I’m Not Going to Take This Any More!

Today I had an appointment for a physical therapy consultation. My neurologist recommended I get some PT for minor symptoms related to my benign brain tumor after surgery and more recent radiation treatments.

Now for some context. I am fed up to here with the political correctness, identity politics, science denial, lockdowns, and all the other nonsense thrown at us since the election by the overzealous leftists in power and the flock of sheep that follow them like lemmings. Put me in the category of “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this any more!” Here’s that classic scene from the 1976 movie “Network” to place (or refresh) in your memory banks:

Back to the physical therapist. They required me to fill out an elaborate set of online records before arriving. I spent about an hour this morning listing details about a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with physical therapy. I had to choose one of 12 gender identities and one of 300 races/ethnicities – “prefer not to answer” was not an option. I selected “Siberian Eskimo” for my ethnicity and “other” for sexual orientation. I couldn’t wait for someone to ask me about either of those answers.

So I was a little bit short of patience already when I entered the office. One step inside the door, Caitlin, the receptionist, asked me to put on a mask, and I refused. “I will not wear a mask,” I said. “We are in the free state of South Carolina”. She started spouting their “corporate policy”. After an awkward stare-down, I allowed her to give me a mask. Then as she talked with another customer, I glanced across the room and saw the therapist talking to a patient and, you guessed it, the therapist was not wearing a face diaper.

“Caitlin,” I interrupted. “Look down there!”

She saw the maskless guy and blushed (sorry if that reveals her ethnicity). She blurted, “Well, he’s a therapist and he’s vaccinated!” She had not asked me if I was a medical professional, was vaccinated or had immunity by recovering from COVID-19.

I took off my mask, threw it on her desk, and said, “Bye bye!” Caitlin and her other customer both gasped wide-eyed as I turned and stomped out.

By the time I got home, fuming the entire way, my cell phone rang. The owner of the company had her script out, ready to defend her company’s unscientific, discriminatory policies. Needless to say I knocked each of her lame pitches out of the park. To her credit, she did make the call, and we had a long discussion. I asked her why her company cares about sexual orientation (unless they are bigots) and ethnicity (unless they are racists). I asked how, if everyone in her office is vaccinated, do I pose a threat to any of them, or them to me? She had no coherent, scientific answers, but was not deterred from her “policies”.

“We have offices all over the country, and we treat all of our customers exactly the same,” she said.

My reply: “Well, you have one fewer now! Do not bill me, Medicare, or my insurer!”

My friends, if we are going to take our country back, we have to put up a fight every time one of these sanctimonious little minions threatens our freedoms. We have to be mad as hell, and not take this any more.

Fast Food Burgers on the Endangered Species List

Yesterday we pulled into a burger joint drive-through. We were in kind of a hurry. “Good,” I told my son. “There’s only one car in line ahead of us.” It was before fast food rush hour, so we expected to sail right through and be on our way.

We pulled up behind the first car, and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, the guy in front of us got to place his order through the speaker box, and pulled forward. We got up to the speaker, and waited. And waited. And waited. The drive-through kid finally got on the speaker box and took our order – no explanation or apology. But the guy in front had not received his order, so we waited. And waited. And waited.

Cars were piling up behind us, half way around the block. After fifteen minutes, several drivers behind us gave up, pulled out of line and drove away. Five minutes later, we got to pull up to the window. “This is not my idea of fast food,” I complained to the window kid. “Do you know we waited 20 minutes?”

“I’m the only one here,” was his defense (meaning it was just him and the cook in the kitchen). Still, he was clearly operating in slow motion – it appeared to be a “slow-down” strike.

I wish this was just a one-time anomaly, but sadly, it isn’t. This same drama has been playing out for months in our neck of the woods, at every fast food drive-through. And don’t even think about eating inside, because almost none of the restaurants with drive-throughs still provide inside dining.

This seems to be a permanent and unwelcome change in the restaurant business model. We may never again be able to enjoy little things like fast, courteous service, napkins and condiments cheerfully provided, free self-served soft drink and coffee refills, and indoor seating.

Why?

China Virus • After nearly two years of hysteria by the government, the media, the schools, and the rest of the “establishment”, customers are still willing to trade comfort, fun, and value for a false sense of security. Many businesses use the China Virus as an excuse for everything they don’t want to do. The fast food guys sell as many burgers as they did before the pandemic (maybe more), but without the cost of cleaning tables and restrooms and providing free condiments and refills. Plus they can significantly reduce staffing.

Like the government mandates, their China Virus “safety” practices are hilariously unscientific. My favorite local Chinese food joint, for instance, changed from full-service to carry-out only, keeping ten feet of separation between the customers and the cashier. Rather than take cash or credit card from your hand, she pushes a “tray” across a long table for you to drop your payment. When she retrieves your money, she places your order in the tray and pushes it back to you. The tray, like the door, the table, the pen, and most of the restaurant, has not been cleaned once in the two years it has been in use! Not to mention the cash and cards that are home to billions of bacteria.

Endless Unemployment and Stimulus Checks • Businesses, especially those in lower-paid service industries like fast food, find it impossible to get and keep employees at any rate of pay. Every single fast food restaurant around here has a “help wanted” sign, and the going rate at the more successful ones is $16 per hour – that’s $33k per year, plus benefits, not exactly an after-school gig. Many former restaurant employees are using the same China Virus excuse to stay home and receive government funds. Our current administration promises more of the same on a massive scale, in a naked attempt to buy votes from laborers, entice illegal immigrants, and cause an economic crisis that ostensibly only their brand of fundamental societal change can solve.

Sneak preview: expect shortages and big prices for Biden-gas this summer as the gas truck driver shortage hits. They went on unemployment when the China Virus tanked the economy, and they ain’t coming back any time soon. Biden’s abandonment of pipeline construction and energy production won’t help either, long-term.

I’m going to save my gas, stay home and barbecue my own burgers. Without major pushback, we won’t stop the slow freight-train of woke fundamental change.

No song today, I just had to give you this clip from the classic movie “Good Burger”.

No Soup for You!

Everybody loves the Seinfeld shows featuring the “Soup Nazi”, the merciless restauranteur who arbitrarily decided who would get to buy his soup, and who wouldn’t. If you haven’t seen it, or need a refresher laugh, here’s a snip:

Every day life in America feels more like a Seinfeld episode. Like the wimpy Seinfeld character George Costanza, most of us cringe in fear of being “cancelled” by a Mask Nazi or a Race Nazi or a Gay Nazi or some other enforcer of nonsensical left-wing political correctness. And like Elaine, those of us who rebel get slapped down – “No soup for you!”

My son and I were at the Charlotte airport waiting for a flight yesterday. The woman sitting next to me noticed that when I talked to my totally blind son I pulled my mask down, temporarily, so he could hear me better. As the tension mounted, I knew that she was a “Mask Nazi” looking for a victim to publicly shame.

Finally she couldn’t hold back. “Excuse me!” she huffed through her own elegant bejeweled mask. “Are you vaccinated?”

I was ready. I was SOOOOO ready. I couldn’t contain for one more minute the year and a half of “pissed off” I had been holding in. And I let her have it. “How dare you?” I said, revving up. “To assume that I would intentionally put you, or anybody else at risk. I am totally offended and insulted!”

Wide-eyed, she lurched back in her seat. Nobody had ever pushed back publicly against her Nazi tactics before, and she didn’t know what to do.

“Doesn’t your mask work?” I continued. “If your mask doesn’t work, what makes you think mine does?”

“Are you with the Mask Police? If you are, I want to see your badge!” She started to sputter an apology as nearby passengers watched the drama unfold. “I’m sure you’re okay,” she mumbled.

“Well, I’m certainly not afraid of you!” I fired back.

I was just getting warmed up. “I am so sick of this unscientific crap!” I wailed. “Why is it okay to cram people together like sardines on airplanes but we can’t sit next to each other at a church or a ball game?” She had no answer for that.

I wanted so badly to ask if she washed her hands the last time she went to the bathroom. I had to trust her, because there was no evidence that she had! But that’s a little too personal for a public forum.

She weakly offered a peaceful exit to the confrontation. “Well I hope this is all over soon.”

“So do I,” I responded, and apologized for blowing up. “President Biden has promised he would eradicate the China Virus by the fourth of July.”

The Mask Nazi looked startled. Maybe she doesn’t fully trust the president she voted for!

The “China-fication” of America

(Color China Photo via AP, File)

Two months into the Democrat takeover of our nation, I am plenty worried. Not about myself and my wife. Not about our children. Our grandchildren? You bet.

As I recover from the shock of a stolen election followed by the unraveling of all the progress made over the last four years, my worldview has begun to clarify. I think I am finally beginning to understand what’s going on.

My son asked me today, “Do you really think we will never again have a fair election?” After some thought, I had to admit that the likelihood of a real election in our near future is pretty remote.

Look at it this way – the Democrats now have control of the three branches of federal government, the news media, the education system, the military, the judiciary including the Supreme Court, the FBI/DOJ/CIA/State Dept., the entire federal bureaucracy, most of corporate America, the internet, social media, pop culture, entertainment and sports. Their control is so complete that they are able to steal an election in front of God and everybody, get away with it and laugh about it, with virtually no opposition. They can presumably do that again, repeatedly. How in the hell could we traditional Christian conservative Americans expect to ever gain back even a tiny portion of control over our government or our destiny without a deadly civil war?

It appears that the United States (and perhaps the civilized world) has come to accept the Chinese model of government, culture, and morality as the new paradigm of success. After all, the communist leaders of China have maneuvered their huge nation from abject poverty and utter failure to world champion status in just a few decades. Yes, their model richly rewards the ruling elites while “genociding” or “disappearing” unwanted citizens. Yes, their air is unbreathable, their genome-bending diseases are unstoppable, and any disagreement with the CCP is brutally, even militarily, extinguished. But the billions of people in the great Chinese middle class have been elevated to a sustainable, somewhat comfortable standard of living. That is, as long as they do as they are told, maintain an acceptable social score under constant surveillance, and accept mediocrity for their entire lives.

We apparently want the same one-party control system that China has. No need for citizens to make decisions of any kind. No need for freedom of expression, religion, or truth. The government knows best, just shut up and live.

There’s only one problem here. China was able to build their system by using and abusing American knowledge, creativity and money. If America wants to emulate China, who will we look to as our “cash cow” to finance our growth and progress? Guatamala? Mexico? Using the wealth they pilfered from us, China has already taken over most of the third-world at breakneck pace.

With Democrats now controlling every aspect of American civilization, and promising (already delivering) the China model to our nation, those of us over age 40 who give a damn about our grandchildren don’t seem to have a lot of options.

But there is one last hope. And it is that individual states will re-affirm their sovereignty, rights and freedoms under the Constitution of our forefathers. If there is no room for the “Make America Great Again” spirit in our nation, I pray to God that there is room for it in our states. If we have hope to restore the USA to greatness, that hope lies in the flyover states, not the metropolitan coastal areas that are willing and happy to sell their pitiful, fearful souls to the federal government for promise of a crust of bread. May God bless the United STATES of America!

I’ll Give You Money!

Ah, America – the land of opportunity, where any entrepreneur with a good idea can get rich. All you have to do is be in the right place at the right time with the right scam.

So here’s the next big opportunity.

Americans no longer have to show up to vote, right? And mail-in ballots do not need to be verified in any way to be considered valid, as many of our states have proven in the 2020 elections, right?

The old-school method for getting stinking rich by being elected to office in Washington, DC has been to collect huge sums of money from lobbyists and rich fatcats and then buy advertising that will make the voters hate your opponent. For example, Democrat Jaime Harrison and incumbent Republican Lindsey Graham collected and spent about $230 million on hate advertising in their recent senate race. But this technique is now obsolete. SC voters already hated both of them before the advertising. Harrison had more money and bought more advertising, but South Carolina loves President Trump, so we plugged our noses and voted for Graham, hoping he would support Trump.

But wait a minute – if that kind of fatcat money is available to candidates, and there is no control over mail-in ballots, why go through all the hassle and risk of advertising? Why not just buy votes directly on the open market?

I think I am going to run for Lindsey Graham’s seat next time around using a combination of old-school and new-school tactics. Like the current group of “corrupticrats” in DC, I will collect a ton of lobbyist/fatcat money by promising legislation that will make them even richer. But instead of spending it on hate advertising, I will create a website where voters can send their mail-in ballots, marked for me, directly to my campaign manager, who will conspire with corrupt postal workers and poll employees to dump them in the ballot boxes. In return for their ballots I will send each voter a Visa gift card for the going rate, which was $130 per vote this year. If you can collect or create 100 ballots I will send you $13,000, and I don’t care how you get them.

It’s the American way – supply and demand, efficiency of production, stuff like that. Oh, but it’s dishonest, you say? Tell that to CNN and Google.

The Party of Pinnochio

You watched the vice-presidential debate this week between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris. I know you did.

The candidates defined the massive ideological and moral divide in our country right now, and I found myself reducing that difference to one single thing: honesty.

One one side you have Republican Mike Pence, a very devout Christian who is so scrupulously honest that he has never once joined a woman in a room without his wife present. Pence does not lie. Pence CANNOT lie. He would explode if he ever told a lie, and he wears his faith proudly on his sleeve.

On the other side you have Kamala Harris, who grew up in the Democrat culture of dishonesty. She launched her political career by sleeping with San Francisco mayor and state assembly speaker Willie Brown, who was married at the time and 41 years her senior. Brown then appointed her to two political posts.

The debate moderator, Susan Page of USA Today, framed every question in a way that was critical to President Trump and his policies. One of her questions stated that despite a fragile economy (not mentioning Trump’s record success before the China Virus) the Biden/Harris website declares their intention to implement the $4.1 trillion “Green New Deal”. She asked Harris to elaborate. Harris responded, “Joe Biden will not ban fracking. That is a fact! That is a fact!” She was either caught in a whopper of a lie, or her campaign’s website is dishonest. There is no wiggle room between the two.

Harris declared at one point that, “On day one, Joe Biden will repeal Trump’s tax cut” and later insisted that “Joe Biden will not increase taxes on anyone making less than $400 thousand dollars per year.” Pence about came out of his shoes, pointing out that eliminating the Trump tax cut would instantly raise taxes for the lowest earners by at least $2000 per year. Harris’s face revealed her embarrassment at being caught again in a bald-faced whopper.

Pence later asked Harris point-blank if she and Biden intended to “stack” the Supreme Court. After several attempts to divert, she shook her head and mumbled a sheepish laugh. Busted again.

Sticking to the Democrat playbook, Harris repeated the Charlottesville quote where Trump said there are “fine people on both sides” of the protest and she conveniently left out the next line in which Trump condemned white supremacists and neo-Nazis. Is there any American so uninformed that they still fall for that lie of omission?

The brazenness of Harris’s dishonesty was shocking and icky to Pence, as it should have been to any alert viewer. It makes one want to wash his hands, regardless of any virus. Exaggeration is expected in a political campaign, and vague promises are commonplace. But in the past, outright lies by candidates had consequences with the voters if proven. Democrats no longer fear having lies blow up in their faces, because, to them, the end now justifies the means, and apparently at least half of Americans no longer value the truth either.

Basketball Lives Matter

I keep seeing articles and posts and newscasts telling me that blacks and whites in America are supposed to hate each other.

That may be true in downtown Minneapolis (I doubt it) but it’s not even remotely accurate in my South Carolina town.

At least twice a week I go to my local YMCA for pickup basketball games. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I am white, 66 years old and one year removed from major brain surgery, but I just love to play basketball. Most of the guys I play with are in their twenties, a few high schoolers, a few middle aged, and I am the “old man”. I feel blessed to be able to compete well enough to be part of the group.

Our players are about half black and half white. If you believed the network news, you would think that when we pick teams for a game, it would be the angry black guys against the angry white guys. And that a black guy would never pass it to me, an old white guy. And that if a black dude gets knocked down, I would never stop to pick him up, or vice-versa. And that we couldn’t possibly laugh together, compliment each other, root for each other, and just generally have a great time sharing our love for basketball.

But it’s true.

At the store, in a restaurant, at a gig, in church, I see people of all colors and classes smiling and enjoying each others’ company. I see black families, white families, mixed-race families interacting with warmth and joy. Kids play together without even noticing skin pigment.

Racism, black or white, is just not tolerated in my town. And I suspect that my town is pretty typical of most American towns. Before you call me naive, I must admit that bigotry does exist, but that is mostly on the part of far-left idealogues, who insist on categorizing people by physical characteristics instead of judging character.

So what’s up with all these network and internet reports of out-of-control racial hostility in America? COULD IT BE THAT SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO MANIPULATE US FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES?

Why Are We Still Burning Corn In Our Cars?

The price of oil futures fell to negative territory last week and remains anemic at around $17 per barrel today. We have such an oil glut that there is no place to put it any more.

Thanks to fracking, new oil exploration in other parts of the world, and OPEC’s erectile dysfunction, oil is no longer a scarce, expensive energy source. The world has enough oil to last for centuries.

Still, we have farmers planting, growing, and harvesting corn so we can add 10% ethanol to our gasoline. We turn our auto factories upside down and add thousands of dollars to the price of each car and truck to meet stricter EPA minimum gas mileage targets. We subsidize alternative “renewable” energy sources and devices despite having essentially solved carbon-based pollution.

Short-term, the COVID-19 pandemic has shut down the demand for oil. But that is temporary and doesn’t address the bigger issue. Let’s face it, oil is and will continue to be the best energy solution on earth for a long time to come.

So how does it make any sense to suppress the production and use of oil as an energy source? Two answers, the same ones that can be applied to every seemingly irrational political and cultural issue: money, and power.

Our kids still come home from school (when it is actually open) in tears from dire predictions about their world being destroyed by evil, smoke-belching big businesses and mom’s gas-guzzling SUV. Never mind that those end-of-the-world predictions never seems to come true.

Leftist politicians just can’t let go of the “global warming” hoax and the power it gives them over a frightened populace. They know their bubble could burst at any second. They have no choice but to continue promoting subsidies for windmills, solar panels, electric cars and so many other technologies that will NEVER be comparable to the common-sense fuel that God designed and made plentiful for our use: oil.

But back to corn. This week farm lobbyists are asking Congress and the Trump administration for billions of dollars in Coronavirus aid. Some of the request may be legitimate, as the ag sector has been harmed by government decisions such as the COVID-19 shutdown and foreign trade negotiations. But part of their justification is that demand for corn continues to fall because demand for gasoline is down.

Instead of letting the free market determine how our acres of productive land are used, such as growing the foods needed for people and livestock, we are actually considering paying farmers because they have to plant corn which is no longer needed in light of low demand for gasoline. What the hell kind of logic is that?

Let’s tell our leaders that it’s time to end the ethanol requirement, and subsidies that prop up dumb alternative energy industries and the corruption that inevitably goes with them.

Where Is Sleepy Joe?

I guess there are all kinds of reasons for him to stay in bed instead of being out on the road campaigning. His home state is under a COVID-19 “shelter-in-place” order. Delaware governor John Carney has declared that his state will remain locked down until “the public health threat is eliminated.” That sounds kind of permanent.

Still, Sleepy Joe could be doing media interviews from his home like other politicians do. Or he could go to Washington, DC where Congress is going to reconvene on Monday. Surely he could catch a reporter or a camera for a few minutes there.

And there are many states in various degrees of re-opening. All of them have residents who will vote in the November presidential election. Every state allows essential employees to go to work. Has anybody decided whether presidential candidates are “essential”?

Something is keeping Sleepy Joe from coming out of hibernation. Hmmm.

A quick Bing News search of Joe Biden shows that he has not been totally forgotten. Here are today’s top Sleepy Joe headlines:

Old Sleepy Joe doesn’t seem to have much to say about world affairs these days. Most headlines revolve around China. But Sleepy Joe avoids mentioning China – it reminds everybody of the $1.5 billion deal he steered to his son, Hunter from the Bank of China. C’mon, man.

And lately, Sleepy Joe doesn’t sound very awake when he does speak. Watch this video to see how sad dementia is. Almost everybody recognizes the signs, but he remains the Democrats candidate for president.

Meanwhile, his adversary, Donald Trump, is not campaigning either. He doesn’t have to — he is on camera every day dealing with real presidential stuff, like the pandemic, the economy, national defense, etc.

And this week perennial loser Stacey Abrams is demanding that the Democrats make her Biden’s running mate. Like Sleepy Joe doesn’t have enough problems.

It’s okay, Sleepy Joe. Under the circumstances, you should probably just stay in bed. Have you tried a My Pillow?

Can Anything Good Come From This Man-Made Crisis?

Ten years from now, what will Wikipedia say about the Coronavirus Crisis of 2020, when many of the most successful nations and their citizens will have been reduced, at least for a while, to second- or third-world status?

What will our grandchildren think of us, knowing that we chose to destroy our own companies, industries, family savings, careers – not to mention burying the kids in debt – in exchange for the possibility that a few already-medically-compromised senior citizens might extend their lives by another year or so? Will there be a chart comparing the lives actually saved from the virus to the lives destroyed by the imposition of martial law?

Probably not, because facts and numbers don’t matter any more. There was a time when issues were won by the person (or group or nation) who possessed the facts, or made the best case from a logical, numbers-based examination including historical honesty, instead of feelings and “nice-ness”. Now, group-think and political correctness rule. We no longer have to analyze facts, because the winner is always the one who gets the most “likes” from his friends.

Is there anything good that can come from this? My hope is that after this self-forced error has run its course, we will have learned a few things.

Maybe we will learn to be independent thinkers again, not so quick to trust the “experts”, the career politicians and the news media. We might even question the motives of decision-makers when they don’t seem to make common sense.

Maybe we will understand that in its current form our government reacts to any threat by throwing our money at it in a childish panic. After all, the only thing a government official can do is spend our money – unlike the private sector, which can actually create things of value and solve problems. Maybe we will be moved to change our government structure to prevent these harmful knee-jerk mistakes. Maybe we will be more pro-active and prepared for threats.

Certainly some marginal businesses and industries will perish. Certainly other new business opportunities will appear. Certainly some unscrupulous, powerful people will get richer (somebody please check out George Soros’ net worth before and after the man-made “crisis” of 2020). The businesses that survive will be leaner, stronger, and quicker than they were before.

We might finally realize that our education system is a shambles. Through the lock-down we proved that we can home-school our children, and they actually come out of school smarter than when they went in. We also showed that on-line learning is a more efficient model than exotic campuses full of imperious, overpaid, Marxist instructors.

And it’s possible, just possible, that the “one world” agenda of open borders and happy, smiling faces moving unfettered and unvetted across the globe will be proved inferior to smaller, self-governed and self-contained nations who defend their values and identity. And that there are considerations other than short-term profit in foreign trade and immigration decisions. We might learn to trust, but verify, the intentions of other nations.

One thing is already clear. The world is made up of “blamers” and “solvers”. God grant us the strength and smarts to choose wisely so we never have to go through this again.
